Industry heavyweights including AAK, FrieslandCampina, Harmless Harvest Thailand, Nestlé and Unilever have joined Barry Callebaut to sign the coconut industry’s first sustainable coconut charter. With support from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Green Invest Asia, the charter aims to improve farmer livelihoods, lessen the carbon footprint of coconuts, prevent deforestation and boost supply to meet rising global demand.

Scientists Create Enzyme That Can Destroy Plastic Within Days, Not Years

Plastic has got to be both a blessing and curse for this planet. However, lately, with the amount of plastic that’s getting accumulated and dumped, it has been causing some serious damage to the environment. However, it looks like researchers have developed the perfect thing to combat this problem. They’ve developed a cocktail of plastic-eating enzymes which can actually degrade plastic in a matter of days — something that normally takes hundreds of years to degrade. The enzyme cocktail includes PETase and MHETase. These are produced by a type of bacteria that feeds on PET plastic (often found in plastic bottles) dubbed Ideonella Sakaiensis.

Sustainable Agriculture Capital Grant Scheme (SACGS)

The Agricultural Transformation Programme (ATP) was announced in Programme for Government 2019-2020 to promote changes in the Scottish Agricultural sector to meet challenging Climate Change targets. The Sustainable Agriculture Capital Grant Scheme (SACGS) provides grant funding for farmers and crofters to purchase specific items of agricultural equipment. This is a pilot grant scheme. The scheme opens for applications on Monday 7th of September 2020 and closes to applications midnight Sunday 11th of October 2020.

Ford has announced it will purchase Electriphi, a California-based provider of charging management and fleet monitoring software for electric vehicles. Ford intends to integrate Electriphi capabilities with its Ford Pro services to develop advanced charging and energy management experiences for commercial users.
