The Covid-19 pandemic has placed a severe strain on the health system in the world and many healthcare workers have been stretched far beyond their capacity. For most African countries, balancing a response to the pandemic with the challenges of providing universal health care has highlighted the need for resilient health systems that will address the imperatives of the UN Sustainable Development Goals and prompt novel, custom-made solutions for the continent and its people. While the collection and analysis of data across the region has enabled some of the continent’s success stories to be showcased, experts agree that the health system challenges faced by the region span over the financial, political and socio-economic spheres and that addressing them will take a multi-faceted and African approach.
As I close in on my first year at UPS, I’m reflecting on what drew me to join this organization. First, there’s the company’s reputation for integrity — when UPS commits to doing something, we deliver.

As summer rolls around, people start to incorporate more linen pieces into their outfits. This feels like a great opportunity to talk about how awesome linen is and why you should be opting for it more! Linen is the oldest textile around, so it’s not surprising that it’s also one of the more sustainable textiles available today. The fabric is made from the flax plant (yes, like the seed) and has a rich and interesting history. Flax isn’t just what we sprinkle on top of our oatmeal, it’s also one of the first plant fibers used by humans. The plant stalks have been fermented, dried, crushed, and beaten into a fiber for thousands and thousands of years. Although we have a plethora of great textile options today, the invention and widespread use of linen throughout history was an incredibly big step in humanity’s development.
