Metso Outotec gears up sustainability focus with CEEC sponsorship

Leading against single-use plastics, further slashing carbon emissions and building circular business models are some of the key goals outlined in the European Commission’s Green Deal.

The EU has a trash problem. It used to ship 60% of plastics and 13% of paper collected for recycling to China, but Beijing has decided to curb its appetite for foreign waste.  Last July China notified the WTO that it will ban imports of 24 categories of waste starting from January 2018, including plastics and mixed papers, and plans a total phase-out of waste imports by 2019, citing environmental concerns.

Many in Germany are trying to do their part to slow climate change. They are conscientious about the purchases they make, they ride bikes and they try to reduce their trash and carbon footprint. They can’t solve the problem on their own, but they could force politicians and businesses to act.
