PVH announces ambitious sustainability targets

Sustainability factors are critical to successful project outcomes in the architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC) industry, from exceeding performance requirements to improving cost control. Building design and construction stakeholders are faced with global challenges regarding limited resources and the impact of development on the surrounding environment. This panel will explore where responsibility for sustainability outcomes lies as we experience the convergence of design, engineering, and construction teams in common data environments. We will discuss the state of the industry in terms of solution maturity for advanced building insights on topics such as embodied carbon, resiliency, and materiality. We will also seek to understand key workflows that meet financial project goals while addressing environmental concerns and uncovering sustainability outcomes at the intersection of performance and ethics.

Facing climate change and the fact that more than half of the world’s population already lives in cities that are constantly growing, the organisation and design of cities with their effects on resource consumption are of central importance in overcoming this millennium challenge. The third day of the UNESCO City of Design Panel Discussion deals with the topic of sustainable urban development.

The Amazon rainforest is the tropical, broadleaf forest which covers most of the 7 million km2/2.7 million mi2 drainage basin of the Amazon River in South America. Of this the forest covers 5.5 million km2/2.1 million mi2,or 79% of the basin (roughly the size of the continental US!) It stretches through nine countries (60% in Brazil, 13% in Chile, 10% in Ecuador, and smaller amounts in other countries) and 3344 indigenous tribal areas. However, in recent decades the existence of the rainforest, despite all its environmental and cultural importance, has come increasingly under threat from deforestation driven mostly by agriculture, particularly cattle farming.
