With their long eyelashes, banana-shaped ears, upturned mouths and stocky bodies covered with curly wool, llamas look like creatures that walked out of a Dr. Seuss story. And now they’re celebrities in the U.S. Because of their gentle and docile demeanor, llamas are often favorites at petting zoos. They appear at festivals and weddings and have even been deployed as therapy animals.
Welcome to our blog series on the people behind Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) at Cisco. Each blog in this series will highlight a different Cisco employee who works closely with CSR initiatives across the company. Enabling an inclusive future for all requires that we care for the planet we all share and do our part to address global challenges. A key tenet of this is enabling a circular economy, moving from a linear economy where products are developed with the expectation of a single use, to a circular model of resource conservation, use, and reuse. Katie Schindall is at the forefront of this work as the Director of Circular Economy at Cisco, leading her team and partnering with company-wide stakeholders to enable a circular economy across Cisco. She has a Master of Environmental Management and an MBA coupled with diverse experience across corporate sustainability.
Based in Melbourne, the Banksia Foundation is a social enterprise devoted to sustainability in society and business since it was founded in 1989. Over the years, Banksia became renowned in Australia and built many successful partnerships all over the world connecting with organisations sharing similar mission, including Nudge! The foundation focuses on supporting initiatives from individuals and organisations that work towards a sustainable future and helps the projects gain national recognition.

Eastern and Southern Africa are vast, geographically diverse regions with rapidly growing populations and rising demands for energy. According to master plans for the two regional power pools, electricity demand is set to grow at between 3.4 and 5 per cent per year to 2040. Meeting that demand is key to bolstering long-term growth in the region’s 21 countries, leaving planners and policy makers with highly consequential decisions to make on the future of the energy mix.
Rome’s mayor said today that she’ll bring in a new ban on single-use plastics in the city, in a move that will be welcomed by environmental campaigners. But her plastic concerns are more about local mafiosi than pollution.
TV presenter Kay Burley, 58, from London, called out flight company British Airways for the amount of single-use plastic used to package their items on-board. Twitter users had mixed views.
