In today’s Ep 1 video I’m venturing into the Planet Zoo Australia Pack, working on a sustainable eco zoo design! Today I’m showcasing a modern louvered pavilion I’ve developed, set up with some guest facilities as a food court. The design is sympathetic to the surrounding landscape, with natural colours and reclaimed materials making this a very ecologically-sensitive build.

The linear way of producing and consuming products is ruining fragile ecosystems and causing the loss of valuable natural resources. The circular economy brings more sustainable solutions where products are in use longer and materials are reused to manufacture new products. To keep products and their materials in a closed loop and enable a circular economy, we need to understand what materials that are included in the product. Traceability of products and materials is complex, and to succeed in implementing product passports stakeholders need to come together to find a pathway forward. Using the case of a smartphone, our speakers will explain the basics for traceability of materials in products as well as the material flow and information loops that are connected to it.
There is a ‘rising chance’ that the world will exceed the key 1.5°C (2.7°F) global warming limit set by the Paris Agreement in the next five years, scientists said. The warning comes from the UK Met Office, who conducted a five-year climate assessment on behalf of the World Meteorological Organisation. World leaders agreed in 2015 to keep warming this century under 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels in order to avoid the worst impacts of climate change.

Growing significance of neighbourhoods in different areas of urban planning, along with the increasing attention to the social dimension of sustainable communities and societies, emphasizes the need for conceptualizing socially sustainable neighbourhoods. This article first critically reflects on the concept of socially sustainable neighbourhoods in two areas of definition and operationalization. It then proposes a tripartite framework for measuring social sustainability of urban neighbourhoods which combines three elements of neighbourhood, neighbouring, and neighbours. This framework is tested, examined, and discussed in the case of Bethnal Green, London.
