Kiizhik School is one of 12 partner schools taking part in the Teaching Our Keepers program, a holistic and science-based education component that will teach Anishinaabe students about climate change, its effects on traditional ways of life and how to combat it.

‘Pester Power or Parent Power?’, a new report from the Children’s Food Campaign and Food Active, is based on research with 942 parents and carers of children across the UK, conducted with the support of the Guy’s and St Thomas Charity. It reveals that: 9 in 10 (91%) parents taking part in the research say that the use of child-friendly characters on food and drink leads to their children requesting or pestering for those products. More than 8 in 10 (84%) parents agree that characters should be removed from unhealthy sweets, confectionery and snack products. Nearly 7 in 10 (68%) agreed….
The food system is a tale of two halves today. On one side, consumers want to go back in time to eat locally-sourced, clean, simple, organic produce, including a growing taste for vintage varieties of certain fruits and vegetables. Technically called landrace or heirloom varieties, the most familiar are tomatoes, but we’re also seeing a return to pre-genetically engineered varieties of commodity crops including popcorn. On the flip side, technological advancements are making genetic engineering (GE) more commonplace as the discovery of new genetic tools, most famously CRISPR Cas-9 gene editing, has brought down the cost and accessibility of the technology.
