A Hopeful Tomorrow: Empowering Future Sustainability Leaders
Resource Magazine has been scrutinising local authority waste data to understand trends for almost 20 years. Our focus is the journey towards zero waste. And while that is not going to be achieved anytime soon, rating performance according to the amount of residual waste that people produce is an effective gauge to measure progress. For obvious reasons, governments, businesses and citizens are focused on tackling CO2e emissions, yet the intensity of our resource use and wastage still warrants consideration. Not only are there implications in terms of greenhouse gas emissions, but failure to conserve raw materials has the potential to derail socio-economic stability. Unchecked demand for and supply of raw materials also puts communities and natural habitats at risk the world over.

One year after making this commitment, ING published its first Terra report, a detailed description of its portfolio current emission intensity and the bank strategy to reach its climate goals – a world-wide first of its kind. Since then, ING increased its ambitions by committing to Net-Zero by 2050 through the Net Zero Banking Alliance. In this presentation, Alberto and Stefanie will share how ING uses the Terra approach to measure and steer its lending book. They will deep dive into a few sectors on which ING reports to demonstrate how they work with methodologies. Looking towards the future, Alberto and Stefanie will also share their outlook for sustainability in banking, including the challenges and opportunities that banks and financial institutions are facing.

The Sustainable Development Fund is available to a variety of local community and conservation organisations or individuals to support projects for the conservation and enhancement of the AONB. In 2020, RSPB Stour Wood was awarded a £1,061 Sustainable Development Fund Recovery Grant to fund a project to improve accessibility and visitor experience, as well as promoting sustainable tourism, by replacing old, damaged gates which had been significantly vandalised and waymarks that were missing. Stour Wood lies within the new additional area of Coast and Heaths AONB, on the Essex side of the Stour Estuary.
