Towards more sustainable and biodegradable polymers

Our recent report on chief sustainability officers (CSOs) in the U.S. revealed that women went from holding 28 percent in 2011 of the CSO positions to 54 percent in 2021. That’s a 94 percent increase.  It’s a positive development to see the playing field level for women in sustainability, but what’s driving this trend? And what are the implications for women’s leadership in business more broadly? Before diving into those questions, it’s interesting to look at the trends in gender and leadership in sustainability and business. 

Endesa has launched the first circular economy academy in Spain to prepare its workforce and operations with the changing economic models that are resulting from the incorporation of sustainability in business cases.
The utility has partnered with various universities including Zaragoza, Navarra, Lleida, and La Rioja at Iberus Campus to train its workforce on resource management, conservation, recycling, and sustainability and innovation.

Efficient resource consumption can save 22.8 billion tonnes of carbon and help avoid climate breakdown, according to a new report from impact organisation, Circle Economy. 
Circular economy strategies can cut global greenhouse gas emissions by 39% and play a crucial role in avoiding climate breakdown, the report suggests, which is launching today (26 January) during the World Economic Forum’s virtual Davos Agenda Week. The Circularity Gap Report finds that the 22.8 billion tonnes (Gt) of annual emissions associated with creating new products from virgin materials can be eliminated by applying circular strategies that drastically reduce the amount of minerals, fossil fuels, metals and biomass consumed by the world’s economy.
